Threaded insert thread size - how do I match the thread off the part I am using?

I am adding a threaded insert to a 3D stl model. I have Hillman #3017 inserts. I need to make a threaded hole to accept these as the material is resin plastic. How do I determine the thread size?

The threaded insert you show is normally screwed into a drilled hole, not a threaded hole.  You can get the proper drill hole size, for the insert, from the manufacturer catalog.  It creates it's own thread.

Yes, however, I need to adapt it to what I have. The material I am using will likely crack if the threads try to cut through. The recommended drill is 13/64", how can I make / measure the thread?

Solidify the stl.

Remove extraneous features from a copy of the insert.

Place the simplified insert and Combine-Subtract.

Attach your files here if you can't figure it out.

You could start with a similar McMaster-Carr part

It should also be easy to measure the minor and major dimensions as well as the pitch (Threads per inch).
