Sweep along path to create a tube

Hi all,

i am probably not seeing the woods for the trees in this one, so a hand would be appreciated.

I am trying to create a tube by sweeping a sketch along a path, but the sweep does not continue along the full path. It stops at the second bend.

Minimal example attached.

Thanks in advance.

In your Sketch 3 these two points were not coincident, making overlapping lines and not a continuous path. I made them coincident and then Sweep works:

File is attached. by the way, you can also use Pipe tool in this case and it doesn't need a profile.

The vertical arc has no connection with the horizontal line.
I would make a 3D sketch:

thank you all for your replies.

the workflow that likely lead to the unconnected path was the offset plane. however it seems illogical from my p.o.v., so maybe you can point out where the concept failed:

i created the first section up to the second bend on a xy-plane drawing. then i created an offset plane from xz EXACTLY on the bend end pint (offset plane -> to object -> selected end point).

then i created a sketch on that plane and started the line on the bend end pint, with the pen snapping to that end point.

to my understanding, it should not have resulted in an offset between the end of the old line and the start of the new one.

so where did i fail?

From your description, you did not project the end point from one sketch to the next sketch.

Snapping to articles not in your current sketch is as you now know an unreliable workflow.

You have duplicate lines over lapping, purple lines work same as black ones, and I got a Sweep by hiding the first sketch,

Another level of accuracy is Plane on Angle, (Vertical) instead of Offset plane, both will work.

Trick to finding these inaccuracies was to double click the path, if it doesn’t chain, as one path your sketches are not connected.  You can have a tangent arc, not connected to and end point, but they must be joined for chaining. (The other end of that middle line does not chain either)

Might help....

Whatever I try I cannot guess how did you make the Sketch3 that ended up with non-coincident points between arc's end and projected line's end. Especially you haven't mentioned how did you draw the R40 arc, you've only mentioned line. Also; did you have "Auto project edges on reference" on in your preferences, or did you explicitly project the purple line in this sketch?

no projection was done, i created a plane and sketch on it at the end of the line. the error was in the missing projections, so, for me, turning on auto project in the future, is the way to go and the solution to the issue.

I prefer to have Auto Project turned off and take user control over exactly what gets Projected.
