trying to import a .zvg and get the error "no information or unsupported information".  what do I need to do differently?

The problem is the SVG you have contains an image, it's not made from curves. Can you resave in vector format with curves.

As Mark said, You can use Illustroator or free online tools like http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-svg to convert a bitmap image into true vector graphics. Attached is the one you can use immediately in Fusion.
