I am stuck and need to be schooled on how to remove this bit of material.
I normally do everything starting from profiles, then pressing/pulling/extruding. My dilemma today is that the bit I wish to remove is not quite flat and therefore not a profile.
Is there a different tool the experts would recommend for removing this little bit of selected geometry below?

just select the face that you want to remove.. and Press the delete key on your keyboard.
Sure @sanket223.patil I wanted to remove the selected part. Eventually I worked out a way to do it by making a new sketch on a plane, projecting the geometry into it, thus creating a flat profile, and then removing it with the same tool I always use: extrude. Here is the result I wanted. I just think my method is a bit cumbersome.
Thanks @melvinbrian3d, I already tried deleting faces several times, unsuccessfully (giving up when the last faces refused to delete). Thanks to your post, however, I persisted further and was able to use your much more elegant method. Thanks guys - I learnt a better and easier way!
