Split Body help

I a body which splits easily with the origin construction plane. however, when I use an offset plane from the origin plane, the body split tool complains that there is no intersection. however, if I split the body at the origin plane, and then split body with an offset plane, it works.

I tried fusion repair installation, and got an adp client running error. Here is the log file for the repair. Any ideas on the split body?

the split body error depends upon the order of splitting. when body1 is split from the origin panel, no problem. then split one of the bodies with an offset plane, this works too.

however, if you try the offset plane split first, this gives a no intersection error.

ideas?

Without the model or a video to show your process, no one can see your issue.

old man here. sorry for the lack of video.

see the file below.

try these steps.

1. open file below.

2. split body1 with origin xz plane.

3. offset xz plane at 100 mm intervals from 400 mm, 300 mm, 200 mm, 100 mm.

4. split body1 starting with the 400 mm plane down to 100 mm plane.

5. 100 mm body split fails with no intersection error.

no need for a video. this is reproducible.

Your model did not make it to your post.  Try again using the instructions I provided.  You cannot attach a file using email, you must use the Forum post.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Did you model this or did  you get it from someone else?

Where is the History?

When I run a quality check on the geometry I get 42 invalid surfaces.

As a sanity check I also ran a Quality Check in another software...

typical work path for wing development is use openVSP to model the plan form and complex wing geometry. I modeled this in openVSP, to get the prandtl/bell load for this flying wing. OpenVSP puts out a STEP file at the end.

I noticed that when I used one method to get the iges file, the panels were not stitched together very well. However, the step method gave smooth 3-degree spline curves for the shape. When I first open the file in f360, I noticed this behavior with the body splitting. There were no errors on open though.

I exported the file after opening it in f360 to a step file, and then reopened the file, and got better splitting behavior. The splitting problem occurs near the chord wise panels.

there are no errors by f360 when I open this file.

see the screen shot for the openVSP export screen. I also have the curve files and such. There were no errors in the openVSP export.

see zip file for curve, surf and panel files.

These are produced by openVSP

the workaround for this body split issue is to use splits a few mm from the problem cord panels. So I use 23 mm instead of 25 mm for a split plane, etc. This is a small plane, only 1-meter wingspan. I 3d print the plane, its not for manufacturing, so I just need good enough for the slicer software.

How are you opening a *.curv or *.p3d or *.srf file in Fusion?

you asked for the files which had no errors. They are from openVSP and are diagnostic files. f360 does not open these files.
