sphere not responding to configuration changes

I am using a sphere to imitate the joining of two circular sweeps. These sweeps are configured to have different , matching diameters. I gave the sphere the same configuration to change diameter to match the sweeps, but it is not changing diameter. It is maintaining the initial diameter it was created with. That was a configured value. What am I overlooking?

On a side note, I really would have like to have created a single sweep path but have not figured out how to do that with the method I used to create the tapered coil. It used the edge of a helical surface that was cut to match the profile. The sphere is a bandage, but for my purposes it's close enough

Thx

I'm mistaken in my error description. The sphere is changing diameter as desired, but the center of the sphere is not following the center point that I used to locate it. The point moves a bit due to diameter change of the configured sweep, but the sphere that was moved to it does not track the move. My guess is the sphere moved to an absolute coordinate defined in the 'root' configuration and stayed there when the configuration changed. I've configured five different moves to match each configuration. It works, but there should be a better method
