Sketches - locked vs. unlocked?

I am puzzling over something that I likely haven't noticed before, which is that some of the sketch items in the browser have what looks like a "lock" icon, and others do not. I use Fusion 360 in direct modeling mode, and make a fair number of sketches to create needed geometry, and I seem to be finding more instances of sketch geometry being somehow inaccessible later when I want to come back and change/add something via a particular sketch. Can anyone advise regarding keeping all the sketches active and usable at any point after creation? It isn't clear to me that the "lock" icon has anything to do with this, but it seems likely. Thanks --

The lock icon means that the sketch is fully constrained, no lock means the sketch is not fully constrained.

Hi,

Maybe this setting in the Prefernces is the cause.

autodeselect.png

Then the sketch will be hided (in browser) after an extrusion was created with it.

Direct Modelling - no Timeline history.

Any edit to a sketch is available from now on, but would not propagate backwards / forwards like timeline modelling does.

Might help....

1. Turn on Capture Design History.

2. Fully define all of your sketches (they should all have lock symbol).

If either #1 or #2 present any issues to you - you should be doing a File>Export and then Attaching your *.f3d designs here and asking lots of questions.

I have was just having the same issue. I would want to go back and change an extrusion or press/pull after modifying a sketch, only to find out after finishing the sketch, it would disappear. I found out that when the edit sketch window is open, down at the bottom turn on 3D box. Works for me. Hope this isn't too late.
