Sketcher: not always possible to drag partially constrained geometry

Hello,

I noticed following behavior:

Case 1:

Draw a line segment, and specify its angle and the distance to the origin:

The segment has one degree of freedom left, and indeed you can drag it back and forth.

Case 2:

Draw that same line, but position it with a construction line instead:

- Normal constraint between construction line and segment, and

- Dimension 14mm applied to the construction line (instead of specifying segment-origin distance).

The segment still has one degree of freedom, but you can't drag it back and forth.

Is there some logical explanation for this?

Thank you,

Johan

Because he wants to maintain the angle (30) while maintaining the perpendicular between the two lines, and this worked to freeze the movement back and forth.
if u remove the angle it will be free again

What happens when you attempt to drag the white dots (the underconstrained lined endpoints)?

Can you Attach your file here that exhibits this behavior.  Everything works as expected in my test.

I don't succeed in posting the screencast inline, it gives an "invalid HTML was found" error message?

Anyway, this is the link:

Thanks for pointing this out. I experimented with this and got the same result as you. I noticed that leaving the construction line and its constraints in place, but applying the dimension to the segment-orign distance, restored free movement of the segment. I don't know if this observation is meaningful or not, but I'll mention it anyway.
