Sketch to Solids

Why do we have to select all the entities every time going to create a sketch into solid, why can't the software select the entities to be extruded or featured. If there is lower count of entity it is easy but if there are hundreds of entities it makes it sophisticated.

I would not like the software to tell me what to extrude.

I'm creating a pattern sketch with more than 40+ entities and then performing operation on them such as cut or extrude. While doing that I need to select every entity which is very irritating and slow process. Is there any other alternative to do that.

In general you should make a pattern from a solid, not from a sketch.
This way you need to extrude only one part.
