Simulation of a spring

I made a model of a small box with a torsion spring that is supposed to be twisted by a rotating part like shown in this video: https://twitter.com/LuisAlbanes/status/840354507687108609 please explain how to do it. Th spring was downloaded from your community CAD models

Hi @albanesmolina

Are you looking to perform a simulation in which Fusion calculates stresses, displacements, and so forth? If so, you want to use the Simulation work space, set the Study type to be Event Simulation or Nonlinear Static, and apply a force or prescribe displacement (depends on the model, what is know, and the range of motion.)

Or are you looking to animate the motion? If so, you would do that in the Model workspace using the commands under the "Assemble" panel (such as "Joint" and "Motion Link").

Once you provide more details about what you want to do, we can go into more details. It would be helpful to have the model (use "File > Export" to save it as a .F3D file and attach it to a post) where you could indicate that you want body X to rotate N degrees due to a force (or something), which in turn winds the spring body X.

Dear John:

For now all I need is to simulate the motion of the spring together with the rest of the device, please find attached the .f3d model. Thanks in advance

Have you seen the below forum discussion?

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/flexible-cable-in-fusion-360/td-p/5906550

Another way to do this may be to utilize parameters and have the assembly update. I've attached the example in the below video.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hmm, any ideas when will Fusion be able to animate spring motions with joints?

I played around with this a bit today. The easiest thing to do in my mind is make the spring clamp from two different components. You can use a joint and a motion link feature to make sure the two sides of the torsion spring move so that they are always aligned. Then there is no need to calculate deforming bodies or update geometry at all. The end result is really nice with minimal computational overhead.

Take a look at this screencast and see the attached file for reference.

I hope this helps!

That´s very cool thanks Nathan. I will check how to include it in my design

Hello Autodesk,

I've been searching on how i can save the animated spring movement as an avi or mp4 format? All I can do is do the spring animation in the Model/Design workspace of Fusion 360. And when I go to the Animation workspace, the joints and motion links do not function like in the Design workspace. Sadly, I can't do animation according to the speed that i prefer in the Design workspace and I've been searching on how i can save it like the one i did the "explosion assembly' animation in the 'Animation workspace'. Hope you could shed some light on how I can possibly do it. Thanks and wishing to read from you soon..
