Simple form creation

I am trying to larn simple form creation. I have started with a plane in form mode with 1 side x 1 side, then added an edge 0.5 to be in the centre. I then used edit form, selected an edge and using Alt1 extended so i have a 3 x 1 flet shape. I then did the same and extended the long edge out twice to create a form of 3 x 3 faces. I then selected one of the points and extended it upwards. When i go to smooth view the edges i created using the edit form tool stay shrp and do not flow as i thought they should. What am i doing wrong, i was following a simple design by 'learn everything about design' and i cannot get past this stage? Please can someone point me in the right direction?

The attached file shows a crease in the form after completing the above, where on the video, there is no crease line?

Your not doing anything wrong.  there's been a bug associated with extrude where it will create a creased edge when you extrude boundary edges that run in cross directions (ie the corner of a square).  I think there are a few other situations where it will also, but can't remember ATM.  just uncrease them after.

to illustrate @laughingcreek's recommendation, here is how to uncrease your model:
