Show ONLY sketch that is being edited (Edit in Place, Edit Sketch)

While performing Edit Sketch within a Edit in Place session and I don't know why all the sketches show when I choose one sketch to edit.  It is hard to Select the correct "Sketch Line" for example.

Just turn off the visibility of the sketches, bodies, and components that you don't want to see.

This is done on purpose.  There are commands in sketch (Project, Intersect, etc) that allow you to reference a sketch element in a different sketch.  As @etfrench says, if you don't like this, you have full control of the visibility of other sketches.

after manually projecting what I will need for the sketch (I have all the auto project stuff OFF) i will use "isolate component" to at least get visibility on most of the model turned off. 

@jeff_strater - isolate sketch might be nice.
