In the past I rotated the origin/orientation of the z axis to make it easy to work on several things at that angle.  now, much later i want to work on the bottom of the part in the xy plane but cant' remember how to rotate.  it makes patterns impossible apparently.  Thanks!

if you look at origin of component chassis:1, you can see y axis is about 10 degrees different from the rest of the components' orientation.

or, do I have to rotate the component to match the origin triad?  it should be ok as it is the ground that all the joints are set around, so the joined components should rotate as well?

I saw unconstrained sketches, that is as far as I looked.

I cannot imagine modeling something of this complexity without ensuring rock solid foundations.

unconstrained sketches are not causing an issue and not relevant to the question.  anyway, no thanks to this forum, I realize now that i rotated the entire model at some point and now have rotated it back to be orthagonal with the origin.  thanks, see you next tuesday.
