Rotate a rib?

Hi,

in model mode I created a cube and used the shell tool to get a kind of box with upper face removed.

Now I created a rib using the rib tool. So far no problem.

Now I want to rotate the rib. But I don't know how.

If I use the move manipulator and select the part which is for rotating then the whole cube is selected for rotation. But I just want to rotate the rib inside the cube so that it is no longer perpendicular to the boxe's walls.

Thanks!

Are you in history based modeling? If so, you won't be able to select the rib only. In direct modeling you can just select the faces that make up the rib and use the move tool. So long as the geometry can be resolved it will work.

Hi Oceanconcepts,

I am in direct modelling mode. If I click on the rib icon in the browser and choose move and keep the manipulator where it appears then it works indeed. I can rotate and move the rib.

But if I reorient the manipulator (move it to a different location to get different rotation center) it does not work anymore. I neither can move nor rotate the rib.

Is this a bug?

I don't know. I haven't used the Rib tool, so I don't know how it should work selecting the feature in the browser.

What happens if you select the faces that make up the rib in the drawing and chose the move tool? I'm usually able to reorient the manipulator and move features when I do that.

Hi Ron,

this is exactly what I did. The curious thing is if I leave tha manipulator where it is then it works.
Only if I move the manipulator (reorient) then it does not work anymore 😞

When you say it doesn't work, what do you see happening?

Hi Ron,

After selecting the move tool I place the manipulator over the rib.

Then I click the small 'reorient' button in the small popup menu. Then I move the manipulator where the rotation center should be located.

Then I click the 'Stop reorient' button. Then I pick one circle of the manipulator to start rotation. But the rib does not rotate at all it stays there fixed.

Same if you try to move the rib after you reoriented the manipulator.

So the reoriented manipulator is where you placed it (reorented it), but the rib does not do any movement/rotation.

I had not used the Rib tool, but tried a simple example and it worked for  me, both by selecting the individual faces of the rib, or selecting the Rib feature in the browser.

Are you seeing the rib highlighted/ selected? Maybe there is something about the geometry that is preventing it from working?

Hi Ron,

I found my problem. Sometimes I forgot to click the green arrow to stop the reorientation. Then I can only move the manipulator of course and not the rib itself.
Sorry for bothering you!
