Replacement for Slicer app?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I know there have been other posts about the Autodesk pulling the Slicer add-in from the app store, and that they are no longer supporting it.  My question is what is everyone using as a replacement?  Even though it has its bugs, I've still been using it, because its the easiest thing I can find to do what I need.  I do a lot of EVA foam props, and use it to slice my models into layers that I then cut out of the foam and stack together to make the final prop.  I have yet to find an alternative that's easy enough to use and gives me what I need.  Is there other software packages that can accomplish the same thing? Or is there some process I could do in the manufacturing work space that I'm not aware of?

You say Slicer Add-in? The Slicer for Fusion 360 I use is a standalone program and although unsupported still works "as well" as it ever has.

Good to know! Thanks @Warmingup1953 . I'm also checking out FlatFab, which as far as I can tell has not had any development since the research was published almost a decade ago, but appears to be pretty powerful for in-process bezier modeling (having trouble determining if it can import models to be sliced - I might just need to download it to find out).

I found this video tutorial series on FlatFab. While it doesn't explicitly talk about 3D object import, the UI clearly shows that there is an option to import OBJ for cutting. Guess I didn't need to download it to find out after all.

Correct me if im wrong but the split body command doesnt work out the slices for you, you have to do it all manually, measure each segment, make the cut outs if theyre interlocking etc. It doesnt offer any of the multipurpose functionallity of what slicer was offering.  Im doing a university course in fusion360 at the moment and even my tutor cannot come up with a fast method of doing this.

Im looking for the same thing. The ability to break a sculpt down into interlocking slices for CNC or lazer cutting or even plotting. I've been looking for months for something that will do this for you. Is it that non Autodesk apps have this fuction?

You've mentioned spliting the body but you have to work out the thickness of each slice you create then notch them by hand in fusion360. This app did all the math for you and added in notches at the touch of a button AND worked out the sheet lay out. PLEASE add this into Fusion360!!!! PLEASE for all us artists that use your software.

Thanks for posting this, your video instruction is useful for if youre just stacking slices, but it doesnt work out the interlocking segments or allow you to change those easily. It also doesnt have the origami option for making a Net of your models surface. Theres so much that I could have done with 'Slicer for Fusion360', is there truly nothing on the market that replaces it. I've been trying to use it now but I think because its no longer supported I cant pull components from my designs.

Im trying to use Slicer right now and although I have saved STL and OBJ's on my desktop, Slicer isnt seeing them as something it can import, nor can I sign into my autodesk account in slicer to pull components from designs.

Hello,

Not sure if anyone is still looking for a solution to this, but I figured out a good way to slice my 3D forms and then lay them out "nested" or arranged for cnc cutting.  I was searching all around, so perhaps someone else will stumble upon this and find it usefull.

Split body with multiple line sketch as tool (my lines are 0.5" apart, for plywood), convert those split bodies to components.  Arrange those components, 2D with envelope size as stock x&y dimension (48"x48" for me). Then voila, ready for 2D contour in Manufacturing space.

That was my solution to find an alternative to what I believe the slicer app was capable of.
