Replace Referenced Part with almost Identical Part

I have a part (see attached) that my design was based around and referenced from.  I want to Replace with the exact same part (just the PIN alignment is different).  Can this be done without issue?  I am afraid that if I simply delete and put new one in its place I will have a nightmare of references missing.

In the attached, my design is to the LEFT.  I placed the (2) components in space just to show difference.  The one that is on the lower RIGHT is the one that is in the design and the upper LEFT one is the one i need to put in its place.

Any help would be appreciated.

The temptation you are wise to reisist is to delete the "old" component as, in fact, that would break references and cause problems.

In order to avoid this use the "remove" instead of"Delete". This will remove the comonent from the browser and your design but keep the data stil in the design so references don't break.

A little icon will appear in the timeline letting you know when it was removed.

After removing that component you can put the new one in place.
