repeat copy a sketch line

Hey,

I am coming from sketchup software and have watched dozens of videos and I feel I have a good grasp of fusion 360 so far. However there is one small thing I haven't figured out and its driving me crazy.

When you are in sketch mode of fusion and you draw a single line and then you want to copy that individual line a certain amount of times beside the original. How do you do it ?

In sketchup you simply copied the line once and hit 5x and it would add 5 more lines equal distance from the first one you copied.

As well I want to copy an individual circle in the sketch area 1 foot over and then place multiple copies within that space, how do I ?

I know with bodies, faces, and components I can use the pattern feature but the pattern feature won't allow me to choose a single line or circle while sketching.

I am sure there is something very simple I am missing.

thanks DP

Yes, that's definitely one simple thing Sketch does better. IMHO

In Fusion, it's not so straightforward (or consistent). Also in Fusion, there are always a lot of different ways to accomplish the same thing (for better or worse).

If you wanted to copy a simple line several times next to it, one good way to do it with a Rectangular Pattern. For newcomers, it's not immediately intuitive how this is supposed operate. There are many tutorials online if you look.

Another way to do it is to select the line (by dragging a selection around it) and using the shortcut keys (Cmd+C) (Ctrl if Windows) and Paste. You'll be presented with a Move/Copy dialog to position. Position and hit enter.

Of course, there are still other ways too...

The easiest way would be to have a quantity entry as part of the Offset command like some CAD programs; I'll suggest that in Ideastation.

Can you screencast how to select a single line with pattern command ? I can't select the line. I can select a primitive or 3d object with pattern

Can you do multiple offsets or are you suggesting that for future improvements ?

Sounds like you're using the pattern tool on the create menu, you need to use the pattern tool on the sketch menu.

One advantage with the pattern tool is you can set a direction as well, you can use the default X or Y axis or draw a line an use as a direction.

you were right of course. Simple mistake of choosing pattern in model mode as opposed to pattern in sketch mode.

thank you so much

Yes, pattern is a good alternative to offset/multiple
