Relocating body into component, paste new problem

I'm loving the most recent update!

Although I normally create and activate components first, it's still nice especially for beginners to be able to relocate a body into a component after the fact.  I'm sure this issue has come up before, but wanted to mention that if that component containing the relocated body is then copied and pasted as new, a yellow warning appears for that copy-paste new event saying the reference for that body failed.

It seems very easy to do these few steps to recreate the problem, but I still did attach a simple example.

Thanks!
Jesse

This is a simple problem with a simple anwer.

When you created the subcomponent, the body and sketch were at the root. You only moved the body into the new component. The sketch stayed at the root.

When you copied that subcomponent, and used Paste New, you asked Fusion to create a new component that had a body but no sketch. Paste New is trying to create a parametrically complete component, which it cannot. So you see the warning that "The model is using cached geometry to solve".

In this state, you have a solution to the yellow warning. Right click on it and convert to DM. This makes the sketchless body into a base feature, which is what it is in that state!

Or you can avoid this by creating a parametrically complete component prior to copying it. Move the body and the sketch into the subcomponent and then copy it. See the video below.

Let me know if you have any more questions about this.

Thanks,

That's beautiful, of course!  Thanks Phil.  🙂

Unfortunately I have another somewhat related issue that I'll post in a new thread.
