This is a nasty bug.
I had a drawing of my whole model. When I re-opened the drawing, the model reference had changed to just be one component, not the whole assembly, and there seems no way of resetting the reference. I spotted this when the drawing had got to 5 sheets, so went back to a previous version and did it again with ScreenCast running. Before I try again and have this happen to a 30 sheet drawing, how can I stop it happening in future?
This is the original drawing:
Note the reference: "Pelton turbines assembly v29:...", of which '4" manifold' is one component.
I did "get all latest", which worked OK apart from having to reassociate a few labels. After adding a new sheet, the original sheet changes to this:
The only reference is to 4" manifold. All the other components have been lost from the drawing.
The screencast shows the stages in the process. My assembly model is v38. Having found the drawing to be corrupted, I went back to the original version and did "Save as latest". This references v29 of the model.
It starts with me opening model v38. I did "Get all latest" and got the familiar "This model contains removed components" message (it doesn't). Went back to the start of the time line and did "Get all latest" again - same message. To fix this I opened each offending inserted model until I got down to a model without inserts and pretended to change it (e.g. by editing an extrude or joint) so that I could save a fresh version. "Get latest" in the calling model could then read the new file, etc etc working up the tree. [Up to 1:30 in the screencast]. It really is time this was fixed to happen automatically!
At 1:57 I do "Get all latest" in the drawing, re-associate a couple of labels and save the drawing [2:52]. Its model tree still seems OK (contains Initake manifold, 4" manifold, etc etc - all the components).
I then go back to the model, make all but the Intake manifold invisible, right-click and do "Create drawing", selecting "visible only" and "new sheet" in the existing drawing [3:57]
Noting that F360 adds an unwanted model reference in the previous sheet's browser, I have left a blank sheet as the final one in the drawing to "absorb" the unwanted reference - will delete the sheet later to get rid of it.
The drawing now has a new sheet and I add a base view to it [4:39]
I then delete the unwanted sheet [5:40]. Actually it didn't on this occasion pick up a spare reference!
Returning to sheet 1, it still looks OK [5:46] except that it has picked up the spurrious refence that I thought would go into sheet 2. So it now shows two copies of "Pelton turbines assembly..." - one with all items visible, one with just the intake manifold visible. I clicked on the second reference to see if I could delete it [6:07] but it wouldn't let me.
I then return to the model [6:24], make a different component visible and again do "Create drawing".
Then returning to my second (Intake manifold) sheet, I see it has gained an unwanted reference to the 4" manifold [8:10] so I add a blank sheet to absorb this pesky reference in future [8:23]
Returning to the model, I realised that "Single manifold" was no longer needed so I deleted that component [9:16]
I then added "Double manifold" to the drawing [9:59]
At this point I got fed up with having the unwanted reference on the first sheet so I closed the drawing without saving [10:47] and started again. At [13:45] I have returned to the original version, with a complete reference tree. It looks OK as a starting point. I save it [14:52]. I add a visible component to the drawing [16:29].
The reference tee still looks OK but the first sheet drawing has shifted to one side [17:09]. Why? I save the drawing and it jumps back to the correct place [17:19].
I then re-open the drawing which I had just saved [17:59]. At first the image looks OK, but I see the reference list is now for just the 4" manifold, not the whole assembly. At this point I ended the recording. When I then clicked on the second sheet, then back to the first one it redrew the image as my screenshot above - no components.
This has wasted a lot of my time. What to do? I would like to copy the table and text into a fresh drawing and start again, but F360 doesn't seem to have a copy & paste option for tables.
