Rails:please show me how this is not touching profile

I build a plane, start sketch on plane,  intersect and get red dots on target sketch, then make sketch touching red dots but still get not touching profile. I redo over and over.

I do sketch over and over and over but still get error. How is this possible?

thanks in advance, JR

Which sketch has the profile?  Which sketch has the rail? What operation are you doing?

same question as @etfrench - it is not clear what geometry you are using as profiles or rails.  I made some guesses, and picked the curve annotated with red scribbles as profiles, and the curves annotated with arrows as rails, and it works:

But, if your intention is to use the other curve also as a rail, then, yes, you do get that error:

which is accurate, because that rail does not intersect profile 1 at all, and intersecting Rail 2 is not sufficient.  Rails need to intersect all profiles.

But, this may not be what you are trying to do at all, and without that info, we can't really answer the question.

I've mentioned this before in another thread with the same model, but I firmly believe that you can model this better with T-Splines.

But as you insist on lofting - not necessarily a bad thing - here is a link to a thread made ages ago by @jeff_strater on lofting with rails. That should get you at least the basics you are missing.

Trippy, how do I model with T splines? In previous thread I thought u meant make sketch with Ts and then loft. This thread tells me to model with Ts some other way. JR

Something that makes this shape difficult to loft is that it has an odd (vs. even) number of sides. Lofting works best with 4-sided boundaries (curves or edges)

Thus I've divided this problem into three separate things. 1 & 2 are lofts with rails. 3 is a boundary patch.

I have the model attached but it still requires some experience with surface based workflows to understand and re-create it.

Don't hesitate to ask questions!

The result is better than I had expected:

Sketch8 does not make sense to me...

I would expect to see a Construction Line

and two Splines that I would expect to be Lines.

TheCADWhisperer_0-1690718348172.png

and I would expect to see at least one dimension.

Preferably a dimension value that I can actually measure out on the shop floor.

I would expect this line in Sketch14 to also be Construction, but I don't understand the Design Intent...

..but because you have created an Offset Workplane based on that sketch profile - you would have to Project the Spline curve into a new sketch rather than change the line to Construction.

thank you for your helpful reply. I will loft this part .75 and want rails made with control point splines. the loft will be edited with splines to shape. thx, JR

my intent is to loft to the profile built horizontal to center line.  Please see attached: i did this by creating 2 profiles one full part size and one a strip along lower side of part. This works but I cant edit like a want.

part is .75 at thickest and tapers to ends. i want a recurve on the profile. not a straight line. JR

I watched this guitar makers vid on how to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9duiqt5yuic

The file you have attached represents a similar but still different problem. It isn't really clear what you want for the end surface to look like.

Also, I've shown the techniques he's using in the video here years before that video appeared.

He's missing a few important considerations in the video.
