You are right, it doesn't matter if you use the timeline, when you delete something, it's gone for good! Since you already closed the file and reopen it, there are 2 things you can try:
1. Check if you can find it in one of the earlier versions. If it's exist in one of the earlier versions and you haven't made a lot of changes since, then you can just promote the last version with that body.
2. Check which sketch used the deleted file as reference. If you just projected the body, the lines in the sketch will be Yellow (something like that). All you need to do is, select all the lines, Right Click and choose "break Link". That should fix the problem.
3. If none of the above helps, send me the file and I'll see what I can do.
