Projected line segments not connected

Hi!  I have a solid body I imported from another source, and Fusion converted it just fine.  When I project the outline of that body (either as "include 3D geometry" or just a normal projection down to a flat plane, some of the segments are connected, and some are disconnected, like this:

projected.PNG

I can break the link and probably do it that way, but that breaks the parametric-centric design.  Anyone know why, in the original object there is an oval, but in the projection, some of the intersections are not carried over?

(unfortunately, I can't share the model as it is under NDA, but I have seen this happen on other models before as well)

Thanks!

It was reported as having been fixed. Please post a design that exhibits that behavior. Might be a regression!

https://a360.co/3riAzu0 is the link to the file. Imported a .stp file. Then I created a sketch and projected the body to the sketch plane. The projection lines are broken in a handful of places along the path. Sketching a line between the broken points does not correct the issue.

That model is empty.

https://a360.co/3fag9Bb is the link for the file with the body. The previous file I intentionally deleted the body thinking that the sketch would be sufficient.

I would like to joint. This behavior is super frustrating. I am sure that it is not easy to solve but this was reported back in 2017 and still no fix? Anyway, would be great if it worked properly.

This is still a HUGE issue after all these years. How is this a thing? I deal with this problem almost on a daily basis working with different models. Ran into this same problem today, ripping my hair out.

Autodesk, when do you think you can get some engineers to address this fundamental flaw with the sketch engine? Us paying customers are still waiting on a solution. It's so bad and so painful to deal with I almost wanna cry and my hands are really itching to just open up my SolidWorks and forget about this all together.

We REALLY need a wizzard like in solidworks for working out sketch issues. Something that would tell you where your line breaks are, and which lines are unconstrained. It's such a pain having to draw sketch lines all over my DXFs to find where the line break is, and having to hunt or use console commands to find which line end isnt constrained.

The Text Command, Sketch.ShowUnderConstrained does exactly that.  I'll admit that it's a little harder to type 27 characters than to click on an icon, but it accomplishes the same.

Yeah, I know, because I have to copy and paste it like 10 times a day when there's a BLACK LINE THAT MEANS ITS CONSTRAINED  but for some reason that doesn't apply to the points at the end of the line. For something so insanely important, there's surprisingly little visability for it.

Why doesn't Autodesk fix bugs?

Probably budgetary reasons. They want to focus on adding new features rather than fixing/perfecting existing ones. That would be my guess anyway.

I posted about exactly this issue on the support forum. Please feel free to chime in on that thread to boost our chances of Autodesk actually doing something about it once and for all!

We also struggle a lot with this problem, because of this planning to switch CAD-software for the whole company....

Please provide a solution!

Buzzing in to say this is a huge issue for me too. Sad to see it's been in the program for over 5 years. Something strange about this bug is that entire lines are incapable of producing a profile. See this screenshot. I drew lines that clearly intersect a bold projected line that has no points inside the boxes and I still get no profile highlights!

I've had this issue with solids build in fusion as well as imports from Inventor ipt files.  Projecting geometry that is clearly connected in the form of the solid, that becomes disconnected in the sketch, renders projections almost useless.

This makes much of our workflow very hard to properly train newcomers to the software.

My work-around has been to delete the link on about every other segment, and re-constrain.  This gets very cumbersome on complex solid projections.

To @arkenix point, new features are great, but having serious bugs like this for half a decade is a bit concerning.

And @Alexander_Rudi we have the same decisions to make... We are currently deciding whether to invest in training for about half of our design team.  Currently we are on Fusion only for our CAM engineers but need more support on the geometry prep side.

Where's the logged bug for this, or at least a KB article?

Please bring more attention to dialing in existing features.

Here's a screenshot during Project > Geometry > Select, showing the highlighted geometry before its projected.  Clearly there's a disconnect between the true solid and tolerances within this command.

And the resulting projection.

@Phil.E @CGBenner This "behavior" has been around for years and has been reported many times. I am sure there has been some work done to get this remedied, but clearly, issues still exist.

Can we get an update on where this is?

@Chris.Brough, can you share an example file?

@TrippyLighting Thanks for bringing this up. We have lots of examples, but if anyone can provide another design it will help. The issue is understood and a project is planned for this. No ETA on when we can start.
