Project Intersect Errors

Hello Guys

I"m starting new thread here because i'm having some issues with project intersect.

In the attached file if lofting the hull of a ship, i've drawn various profiles and i want to intersect points onto a body. In the file the sketch Fr 68 I want to intersect this with a plane at an angle with the hull flat side. its worked for all the other frames behind this, but not this one. I've tried checking the coincident points, it seems ok, but theres something around the middle of the hull that its not liking.

Can someone have a look and shed some light on this issue.

Cheers

Martin

@Knightmove,

can you give a bit more context here?  I can't see a problem in your design, but I'm probably not looking in the correct area of the model.  Can you zoom out and show where on the model this point is, and also which plane you are selecting to intersect with?  thanks!

[edit] . never mind, I think I figured it out - you are intersecting the spline from Body2.  I'll look into it, but I suspect this is just a graphics glitch and the data is actually OK.  More later

Thanks for taking a look Jeff, please see below the plane Fr 68. Basically i'm trying to project intersect the points where the plane at an angle intersects the flat side plate of the model and the keel position, then give me two points where i can use a spline to draw the profiles ( vertical frames) similar to the other profiles on the hull.

All other profiles i drew intersected correctly with the rails but every-time i try this around what i call fr 68 i get the not intersecting error in the loft rails.

I hope this is a little clearer.

Martin.

@Knightmove,

Yes, I am pretty sure that this is just a graphics issue.  If you do a measure between the point and the edge, the result shows 0, for "all decimals":

I think (hope) that the underlying curve and point data are all good.

Here is a screencast that I think proves that this intersection is actually OK.  I took the body and copied it (before the sketch), then edited the sketch and did another intersect with the copy.  Then, I added a line between those two intersection points.  Exited the sketch, and created a loft from one body to the other, and used that sketch line as a rail.  I did not get a "rails do not intersect profiles" error, which I would have expected to get if the point was not precisely intersecting the curve.

It is worth investigating why the graphics is wrong.  I'll send this off to the graphics team.

Jeff

[edit] forgot the screencast:

Thank you very much for your response Jeff, I'll go back again and have a look at my profiles, I think I have two possible errors here in the design. I vertical profile needs to move back so it cuts the very end of the flat side of the hull at the top, intersected with the remainder of the frames towards the keel at the bottom.

I'm also getting a G1 Error, I think its from this area here in the screenshot, I've been sat at my computer all evening and i've gotten to a point where i'm just tangling myself up i think.

These ship hulls are extremely complicated, but still very enjoyable, a great way to learn just how powerful fusion actually is.

Thanks for your help Jeff, Have a very Merry Christmas all the best for 2018

Thanks for taking the time for the screencast Jeff. I've had issues in the past with projected/intersected points not snapping to rails correctly, but looks like this time, it actually was ok.

Tomorrow I'll have another look at my design and make some adjustments!!  Thanks again!!
