Problems after the update on January

Hello,

After the update before some days, my fusion 360 performance is very bad. I uninstall and reinstall everything but everything is the same.

Also when I make a change and try to update my assembly I have a 99% crash. Then I have to re-open fusion and try to update my assembly again.

Even if I limit everything for better performance (my pc is much stronger than the requirements), I still have the same issues.

Before the update everything was smooth and perfect.

Any help?

My pc has the following :

FX-8350 AMD

Sapphire RX-480 8GB

16GB RAM

Hi @paul.clauss

I'm not using workstation. Only using laptop, but sometimes with an external monitor via thunderbolt connector.

Ok. I'll send them each time.

Hi @tigertooth4

Thanks for the response! I wanted to make sure that you didn't miss my second post on this thread from this morning, so I have included it below:

I wanted to jump in with some questions from our development team. Please take the time to answer these at your earliest convenience:

  1. Is you Mac OS using a non-English language? Many of the crash reports are seen predominantly with non-English Mac OS. If you switch the OS language to English, are you experiencing less crashes?
  2. Does your computer login name include non-English characters? We have seen some issues in which this can effect Fusion because the filepaths become more complex.

Thanks!

Hi @paul.clauss

1. Is you Mac OS using a non-English language? Many of the crash reports are seen predominantly with non-English Mac OS. If you switch the OS language to English, are you experiencing less crashes?

Yes, my Mac is using Chinese as UI language. I've changed to English, hoping there are less crashes.

2. Does your computer login name include non-English characters? We have seen some issues in which this can effect Fusion because the filepaths become more complex.

No, my login name is in English. However, if I'm using Chinese as UI language, the file path will include non-English characters, for e.g. /usr/ will change to /用户/, ~/Library/ will change to

~/资源库/  ... I see your concern, this might be a problem since F360 stores data in ~/Library/ . So, I've changed UI language to English, to see if there are less crashes.

BTW, I've seen two different types of crashes in my case. First type allow me to ignore the crash report dialog and continue my design flow ( modeling and saving with no problem); the second type was more crucial, in which case I cannot ignore the dialog ( bc F360 hangs up), so that I have  to close it and restart again. It seems these two have different causes. I'll keep on sending reports.

Hi @paul.clauss

Thanks for the tip! Following you tip, I've changed the UI language of my system to English. It turns out it significantly reduced the number of crashes!!

I only have two or three hangs/crashes yesterday. So, file path containing non-English characters might be the reason!

Hi @paul.clauss

I'm wondering if March 1, 2017 updates fixed Mac locale language related crashes or not?

Bc I didn't find updates blog mentioning it.

Thx!

Hi @tigertooth4

While none of the issues with non-english OS language were specifically mentioned in the Roadmap update, I am unsure of if any of them were addressed. I have reached out to some members of our development team about this question and will update this thread as I have more information to share.

Thanks!

EDIT: Unfortunately, the issues with non-english OS language were not addressed in this update. Our development team is aware of these issues and will be addressing them as soon as possible - I apologize for any inconveniences they may cause you until they are remedied.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi @tigertooth4,

We just released an update to our .com customers that we believe will fix the issues we have been having on non-english locales.  Please give it a try and let us know if it is better.  We will update the Mac App Store in about 14 hours, so if you are using that build please try it tomorrow.  If you do crash, please send in CER's so we can diagnose any issues you are still having.

Thank you,
