Problem Unfolding a Round Panel in Sheet Metal in Fusion. Help :)

Hi

I am working on a cylinderical project and need to add a sketch to an unwrapped panel to get it right when rewrapped again.

I added a sketch I needed to my fusion project. I changed to the Sheet metal section and converted the top middle panel to sheet metal and made a flat pattern. I inserted the sketch on it and  then cut out the panels I needed.

Skins 2.JPG

When I finish flat pattern and finish, it returns to nothing being there even though it shows there is a flat pattern made in the browser. I get the same blank top front panel.

I assume there is something I am missing to make it activate in the end result?

Any help will be great as this is the final part of a big process.

Kind Regards

Ian

You don't want to use flat pattern, you want to use unfold. Then you can cut the sheet metal and refold with the cutouts in place. I made a sheet metal piece and redefined the sketch to the sheet metal part, cut it, refolded and used combine intersect with the original solid body.

Hi

Can I bother you for a screencast. I am having trouble doing the unfold still.

I assume you created another piece on the end of the panel to use as a bend to unfold on. I am trying that but still carn't get it to unfold.

Sorry to be a pest.

@ianhughes7UFVF in that case you should create the screencast so we know where you are going wrong 😉

Hi

Your all off the hook. I was able to work out the method with the sample file that was provided.

I needed my son to stand beside me to help with it, but got there.

But I will do screencasts in future to help explain.

Thanks all.

Hi

So much for me being able to unfold this panel again.

I had to restart the project as my cutting panels was incorrect and need the cuts to go to a center point consistantly.

But for the life of me I carn't seem to get this to work again.

I carn't seem to get the blank panel at the front to unfold.

Is it possible to show me how you unfold it and cut something out and refold it in a screencast so I can follow it step by step.

Kind Regards

There are no Sheet Metal features in the Timeline of the file that you Attached?

BTW - to add a bit of encouragement, as you gain a bit of experience with sheet metal - this can be done (all three components) with 2, maybe 3 sketches, 4 or 5 features and no extra workplanes.  🤔

Hint: Think about how it would be manufactured in the real world.

You almost have it, just add a tangent line on sketch 28, use the flange tool in sheet metal and extrude both the arc and line down 5.875" and unfold. Then you can put your sketch on the unfolded part and cut, then split the body with the side of the outer skin after you refold. You can delete extrude 39 as you don't need that body.

Ian, the problem is you shouldn't be making sketch 29. In the model I attached, I just edited sketch 28 and the line I drew was tangent to the arc in the same plane. With that line the flange tool can be used to create the sheet metal body with the flat that it needs to unfold. The photo is sketch 28, the white line is the line I drew. In sheet metal, just select flange and select the outside curve for the flange and pull down 5.875". Then you can unfold and make the sketch for the cutout, cut and refold.

Hi

The next problem is creating a flat pattern from the Skins.

The Outer Skins will flatten but the Inner Skins wont.

Any help would be great.

Kind Regards

Hi

I hope the file attached will help pick up why I carn't unfold or flattern the inner skin.

Its confusion to see why it wont do it.
