Problem Obtaining Plane Reference

Dear all,

I would like to create a rib on my component but struggle to position the rib accordingly.

The goal should look like this:

I for some reason cannot position the rib-line.When I insert the rib I get the error: The Rib cannot be created. Ensure profile curve can intersect body.

When I draw the line, i cannot fully define it and it remains blue. It does not find an anchor point on the upper connecting part.

Hi @Anonymous,

I made a quick model with a rib.

At the pictures, you are showing it looks like you have created a sketch on the correct plane.

Maybe this example helps you creating your rib.

thank you! But how can I apply an anchor point on the upper component part. I can connect at the lower end, but the upper end is free floating and not defined.

Hi @Anonymous,

Your problem is that there are 2 bodies.

You have to combine them first.

New plane on 3 points, use sketch 2 and Sketch 15.  Plane is side on to the intended rib.

Project > Intersect the two aligning edges, then sketch the line to join,

Rib works as expected with this preparation.  Set thickness as desired.

Might help....

Couple observations: "obey" Fusion Rules #1 & 2:  Create Components and Name Your Stuff.  18 Sketches, none labelled, and zero components.

I agree with Rule #2 but unless the design only contains one part there is no need for a component. The root component will do the job.

Now, I suppose- but I've had plenty of opportunity for regretting stuff orphaned in the root folder as a design progresses, expands.    I figure it doesn't hurt as a mater of practice, and benefits if developed as reflex.

If you plan to just modle on part, because it's e.g. part of another design, it will "hurt" if you're creating components by default, because whenever you insert (not derive) the design, you'll end up with a unnecessary component in the target design.

On the other hand, if you don't create the default component and you'll want to add more components to this design, just create a new design, insert the existing, break the link and you're "clean" again.

Starting with a default component is IMHO against the points in Rule #1.
