Problem extending patch for splitting body

Hello,
I believe I have found a bug with the extend tool in the patch environment. I have created a hollow shell housing using the sculpt environment. Next I convert the model to B-rep. Now I want to split the body in half, so I create two patches (one on each side of the shell), and I create a third patch between them by lofting. This patch consists of two faces which where I believe the problem stems from. Next I will merge those two faces. Finally I attempt to extend the sides of this patch, which is where everything breaks. Pictures below.
I believe that this problem is really due to the fact that the original tspline mesh is not the greatest, there are quite a bit of star points and other features that make the mesh not the greatest.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
