Problem Deleting a design

Anonymous
Not applicable

When I right click on the file in the data panel and select 'Delete', I get the following message.

" A version of this design has been referenced by drawings or other designs and cannot be deleted"

The problem is, that it is NOT in any other design or drawing.  When I created the design, I did include it in another design but there was a problem with it, so I would include it, it didn't look right so I backed it out.  After a while, I abandoned that file and started over with a new file which I managed to get working.

Is there any way to delete this file?

Hi,

From your description and the warning, seems you did not clear up the inserted components. Could you pls invite me to your project and let me have a deep investigation in this?

Any more issues pls let us know.

invite email: xindong.zhu@autodesk.com

Thanks,

Xindong

Hi,

Suppose your file "a" was once referenced in file "b", but then you removed that reference from it.

Short answer:

In order to delete file "a", you have to first delete the file "b".

Now I definitely understand that you might not want to delete the file "b", in which case I agree that this is a limitation.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I will surely forward this case to the right developer and this will be discussed in detail.

Detailed answer (with reason):

When you referenced file "a" inside file "b", you must have saved file "b" afterwards. Which created a file version "b v1".

Then you removed that reference from file "b", and saved it again, creating a new file version "b v2".

But the catch here is, file "a" is STILL referenced in file version "b v1".

And because we allow user to go to (promote) any previous version of the file, file "a" can not be deleted until file "b" is deleted.

Thanks.
