Possible "bug" in auto-recognition of profiles in a sketch

I cannot select the internal profile of a surface. I have the "auto-project geometry on active sketch plane" on, but it doesn't work. Even after the projection it cannot recognize the partial profile.

Am I missing something? I think it's a bug.

I imported this file (a piece of a 3d printer) that I'm trying to edit from the internet, it's not my production.

I do not see any issue using the Project command on your part.  As I mentioned, the Preference setting "auto-project geometry on active sketch plane" may be hurting you since the auto created sketch will get in your way.  I do not believe their is any Bug here.

Thank you. I would like to further ask: are you able to select this ↓ profile specifically (contoured by the yellow line). I am supposed to be able to select it, but there is no way to do it.

In this picture, for example, I extruded a random sketch with similar characteristics, and I am able to select both the internal empty profiles and don't even need to project them. In fact in the third picture, I can extrude them.

... → But this is not possible with the first.

Can you make sense of this?

Your model has some issue on the surface you are creating your sketch and Projecting the edges.  The video will explain how to find the issue and correct it.
