point to point move of round component

Anonymous

After new update today I can't select the center of any round face for a point to point move.  I'm trying to move a flat washer to a round hole and can't select the center of the washer or the center of the hole.  Looking for a way around it.

Yeah, apparently for some reason that feature is no more available, instead we should use align for the time being.

I would like to hear AD response on this. It just feels odd that we have to use another tool just to move the centre of 2 circular object.

Yes, like that and I just found out that Free Move isn't exactly like the old move where if we click on one of the directional handles, we can then select the surface we want it to move to. Now it selects that component, seriously is it so hard to people to click cmd/shift key to add more components to be moved?

What about using the Align tool, it works great.

The align tool works completely different and only works with some cases....

@jeff_strater

Seems you were not forced to update to the new move tool...must be nice...broken.gif

Yeah, last time I don't have to use the align tool at all, I just need to invoke the move tool and I can do all sorts of manoeuvres on it, now I need to switch tools just to complete a operation. This is like taking a fully capable wheel and making it handicapped for no apparent reason.

I originally didn't have a problem and welcomed the Move tool improvements cause the impression I got was Free Move will be the same as the current Move tools, just AD added more Move tools options to make certain operation easier, but what we got today is totally unexpected.

@jeff_strater, have you checked your PM?

Worst of all is if you use the align tool it rotates an object instead of just moving one point to another....so that's not a viable option....

Hi Phil, I have yet to find a scenario where the Align tool fails and cannot understand why people are not using it more, I aligned the components you are displaying in a second.

Oops, how embarassing...  I did update, but had left Fusion running all night, so I had not restarted.  Yes, this is a problem, and I see it has been discussed in other places.  I apologize profusely.

I can't even show you cases because the old tool is gone....either way align can not replace the old point to point tool.

It rotates the object...that's useless

Can we expect the Point to Point Move to be fixed by AD in the near future? Seriously frustrating. 😞

It has to rotate the objects as you are telling it to rotate them with your positioning of the icon, you have to get the icon flat on both faces, not vertically.

That's the entire point your missing...with the move point to point it didn't...your not going to understand because you never used the old tool that way.

There is a great tool called "Joints" and it's there for a reason! 😉 With that said, creating the component In-place is not only the right way (unless you have to import the component), it will spare you the need for the move tool.

You are correct, the Align tool for me is the quickest and easiest way to position components relative to each other so I did not bother with the move tool, unfortunately the Align tool has also been damaged by the update.

@Beyondforce

The move point to point was an invaluable "MODELING TOOL" and joints and align do not solve the missing functionality of the old tool.....

I give up......

@PhilProcarioJr,
To honest, I don't remember when I have used the move or align tools last time!

That is because you don't model the things others do. I don;t use the move too much either, but as I start to move more into direct modeling I can see it as a very valuable tool.

Now that I have partially recovered from my embarrassment of not having restarted Fusion when I tested this, I would like to say that, while there are workarounds to some of the problems, that doesn't really excuse us dropping the ball on point-to-point move.  Trust me, this is getting lots of attention, and we will be scrambling to put back this functionality.  It was not intentionally omitted, and we understand that we have broken an important workflow.
