Performance Review

I've got your attention, now the problem description.

I had a welding student approach me recently with an idea for a sculpture for which she wanted to first generate a 3D printed model.  I told her that T-splines would be a good way of creating the model, but I am not an artist (my work tends to be boxes and cylinders) .

The sculpture will be made of various metal plates (some hammer deformed) soldered and/or welded together.

It is single side thickness with front shallow convex and similar to the face of a coin in the image of a wolf attached.  The backside will be concave with image of a map.

I have seen some fabulous work here by some real artists and hope someone here can help her (and me) showcase what can be done in Fusion 360 with T-splines.

I am up for performance review and my boss came out of the welding program here - so it would be great if I could help a welding student with her project.  Smiley Wink

Lots of kudos for me at review if I can show how I helped a student solve a problem when I didn't know the answer.

@JDMather

Ok final step is to create a few different patches of hair and copy paste and move them where you want. You can create any kind of hair that looks good to you.

After the hair is in place all that needs to be done is to combine all the bodies and trim off the excess from the back and you end up with a solid model.

I slapped a wood texture on the model just to show the depth of it, I understand your student will be doing this with metal.

That's about all the time I have to work on this, I hope this shows you everything you needed to know and I wish you and your student good luck on her project. Make sure you post her final piece when it's all welded together I would love to see it.

Total time to complete this model aside from some tests I ran was about 6 hours.

Cheers

Great work.

I will be sharing this with the student and help her reproduce the steps to create.

Be sure to find me at AU - I have some backstory information on this design.

@JDMather

If you or her has any questions feel free to reach out to me and I will help any way I can.

I really wish I could attend AU this year but sadly I have to much client work to finish.

I was asked to teach next year at AU so I'm trying to figure out now if I can make that happen.

@PhilProcarioJr nicely done!  It is nice to see videos that cover the whole process.

Thanks, I always try to be as descriptive as possible with supporting videos and files. Sometimes time doesn't allow that, but this was a subject that I felt needed to be explained since there are people out there that think T-Splines are nothing more then a gimmick......

I for one feel T-Splines are invaluable for a huge number of tasks.

Here is the 3D print.

Working now on some setting up an art student for some post processing painting.

I will post image of the finished weldment sculpture when completed.
