Pattern suppression problems

Hi,

I am having some issues when I try to suppress occurrences in my pattern:

1. the arrows to adjust the spacing hide 2 of the suppression checkboxes. I could get them unchecked in the end but it took me some time to find the exact right spot on where to click. See the screenshot below.

2. When I select the pattern in the timeline later to modify it all checkboxes are checked again. I am not quite sure if this has always been this way since I use patterns quite often, but maybe I never modified a suppressed pattern.

3. Is there an out of the box way of creating a staggered pattern, apart from patterning 2 already staggered features?

Best regards,

Christian.

It can be annoying, I know.

If you're suppressing every other instance, why not just use twice the spacing distance instead? That's how I did these stars:

I am not sure if I understood you correctly, but how do I get the staggered rows with just one pattern?

It required two patterns.

I was making the point that I don't need to suppress every other instance in either pattern, as I just used 2X the spacing distance in each of them.

Your idea is a good work around, but instead of one feature and one staggered pattern you have to create 2 parameters, 2 features and 2 patterns. I am not sure why the stagger option is not available, I cannot remember that I have ever used a software that could create patterns and didn't have this option. Even when I did textures in Corel 20 years ago I had the stagger option.

The suppression issue I would consider a bug. I cannot think of a reason why the pattern should not remember this setting.

Agree about the forgetting suppressed instanced problem. It's annoying.

I am working with suppressions again and I would like to bump this thread. The problems still exist.

.) Pattern controls covering the suppression checkbox

.) Suppression checkboxes are all reset when you edit the pattern again. Has been logged as bug FUS-43527 in 09-2018

Any news on these issues?

PS: I am also going to bump the other thread that had the bug number mentioned.

Please provide a model that exhibits that behavior and also create a screencast of the workflow.

In a quick test I was not able to re-create the faulty behavior. Details matter!

Please share the model. Export as .f3d and attach to next post.

...I started with a new file. Does it not happen when you try to replicate what I did?

When I open your file, I can suppress instances and upon editing they will remain suppressed.

...that's odd. I try to modify that file at work tomorrow and report back.

Sorry for the late reply, I had do go away with work for a couple of days.

So I tested on my PC at work as well as on my laptop and the behaviour is exactly the same as my screencast shows. I also tried re-importing the model I attached here but this does not change anything.

Maybe someone else that reads this thread could try to reproduce the issue and give feedback.

The only thing I could try is to clean fusion off my pc and reinstall it... Any more ideas?

Cheers,

Christian.

Hi,

This can be avoided in this way: > change to Extent

The other error (resetting the settings) does not occur with me.

...like Peter said, details matter.

Thanks to the idea of Günther regarding the checkboxes I think I figured out the problem. Could someone please follow the exact same steps I used in my screencast to verify?

It seems like if I use "spacing" to create a pattern it will not retain the suppression properties. If I use "extent" it will, even if I change it to spacing afterwards and modify the parameters.

Cheers,

Christian.

I followed your example provided in the screencast above and was not able to reproduce this.

As there have been several updates in the meantime it is possible that one of them fixed this behavior.

Can you try out again on your side if you still see the behavior ?
