Pattern Circle Wont Work?

Hi

I have this object that is split down the middle as you may see.GSCover.JPG

I need to add this upside down T pattern on the surface equally 3 times around the object.

So what I did is using a sketch of the T pattern, Split the face of the object and now I am trying to use the patter tool tool add 2 more of the t's equally around.

The problem, it will show me the preview in shadow but when I press enter it fails.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I can combine the object and it still will not pattern the t.

Any thoughts as I have spent hours on this.

Kind Regards

Ian

Hey, it's Vincent!

Anyway, boy, have you made a mess. Do you know what Components are?

Hi

Yes I do and I apologize for not using them correctly here.

This project has been major. I have been given basic measurements and pictures to use to create it so it was everywhere.

There was alot of problems for me with this especially with it being a rounded object. It is designed for 3d printing full size.

Its one of my biggest flaws when I am going from scratch.

But Vincent has been one of those projects that there was no blueprints, plans or shared info on, so I worked hard to create it.

Kind Regards

Anyway, it seems as if the pattern fails because:

1. It's got some problem with the adjoining chamfer. I would go back in the timeline to BEFORE that chamfer was made, do the split face and pattern it, then move the timeline forward again.

2. It's not going to pattern around separate bodies. That bit is composed of a front body and a rear body. Again, I would do the split face and pattern before you split it, or, combine them and then do the pattern.

Hi

Thanks, I will look through the timeline, but that will be fun.

I felt that there was something breaking the pattern revolve somehow.

I will see what I can find.

Kind Regards

Yeah, good luck. Using Components properly would have made this a lot easier.

Hi

I am looking at the timeline now. What a headache. I have gone almost half way back to find the parts before I added any extra work on them and will try and add the detail on.

Can I convert the bodies to components now, or is that too late.

Regards

Hi,

I combined the part and then redrew the pattern and then did a split face.

It goes to the otherside of the part and adds there to.

It still doesn't let me pattern the top design there even though I have gone right back to the basic circular pattern.

I think this one has beaten me.

Of course you can, bit that won't automatically sort al of the timeline items for such components into that component.

See Fusion 360 R.U.L.E #1.

Of course, if you Split Face a cylinder using extended sketch lines from one side, it's going to split the face wherever those lines would intersect it, which is both sides.

An alternative is to Patch>Extrude those lines only as far as you want, which is just through one side of the cylinder.

Then, I recommend Pattering those extrude features first, and finally splitting the cylinder face using those extrudes.

Take a look:

Hi.

I think your suggestion is what I will try.

I think the other suggestions would work but seem very very hard with the mess I have made of the fusion file.

I will give it a go.

Thanks for your help.

Regards
