Lofting - Elipse to Circle Failure

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to loft from a circle to ellipse using two rails. Fusion shouts saying one of my rails does not touch the profile but I can't find where.

Could someone have a quick look and my enclosed file

Thanks

Have redone the ails using splines and it worked reasonably OK for my purposes

The Sketch 2 arc is not attached to the circle, it is tangent to a construction line.Lrail.PNG

The white dot at the top of the ellipse is another spot to check, but it works,

Moving the ellipse of it's sketch plane - not what I would do.

Glad your sorted.

Here is my approach to this topic. My assumption is, that the outer circle / ellipse should be the outer shell and the wall thickness should be 2mm. If this assumption is wrong you have to draw the inner profiles and you've to add additional rails.

The difference between your and my approach is, that I've connected the rails and the profiles by using Sketch -> Create -> Project / Include -> Intersect for the connection between the circle and the rails and Sketch -> Create -> Project / Include -> Project for the connection between the rails and the ellipse.

In addition I've create a plane for the sketch that contains the ellipses instead of a 3d sketch. Because of this I was able to constrain the sketch. Both differences will result in a more stable/maintainable design.

If you want to learn more about projections this post is a good source of knowledge.

I've missed to attach the design...
