Paste into new design

So this is probably a stupid newbie question but I am trying to copy and paste a particular curve from one design document into another. It seems to occasionally work but most of the time it doesn't and I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did differently the few time it did work. 

Any suggestions?

Thank you Mark! It was the clicking on the origin point that I was missing. I must have hit it once or twice inadvertently and not made the connection.
