parts vanished when converted to stl

Hi

I have been having problems with a part in my design that i mirrored. I understand that the normals are reversed but i can't seem to get it to work for me although it has created some quite interesting results. and at one point got rid of the entire top section of my design.

I hope that you can help

Hi @Anonymous,

Its difficult to understand the scenario from the description and images. Can you please attach the design (.f3d) or a screen cast video.

Are you hiding any bodies inside a component before export as stl? because STL files wont export when Bodies are hidden.

Hi @Laurens.G.Smith,

Screen cast can be used to record your fusion 360 workflows. more details about screen cast is mentioned in below link.

Side note: You should have a tool called Snipping Tool on your computer. It's much easier to use this instead of a phone to make a screen capture 😉

hi
I have now managed to capture a screen cast https://autode.sk/2sueYU4 this
shows what my design is and what happens to it when i try to export it as
an stl file to shapeways. note there are not two bodies to the construction
as i forgot to show that in the video.
hope that this helps

Hi @Anonymous,

looks like this is specific to the design. Can you share the model here, and some information how you are trying to save the design as stl.

hi

here is a link to the design and the file.

https://a360.co/2Lnnrzi

from what and another person who is a lecture on this subject to him it sounds like the normals are the opposite way but i don't know how to change them. i am trying to export the component labelled body i can do this but then i run into problems when i try and put it on to shapeway some of the walls appear to vanish but in cura they are there.

I do not understand why this happening.

This seems like a problem in Shapeways' model import.  if I export this model from Fusion as STL, I can open it correctly in Fusion and in Meshmixer.  If you also see the correct model in Cura, I think that points the problem at Shapeways.  You can try experimenting with different settings in the STL export to see if you get different results in Shapeways.

I've looked at this model in Blender and Meshmixer and it looks fine on bth apps.

I have experienced this before with Shapeways. It might help to export as .obj instead of .stl.

thank you all for helping me sort out this problem the idea of converting it to an obj fixed it.
