Hello,
I am essentially trying to figure out a BOM problem.
For simplicity sake, let's say I have two table assemblies (Subassembly 01 & Subassembly 02).
They each have identical bases (Part 01).
They each have unique tops (Part 02 & Part 03).
I want to assemble the two tables in their own model files.
I then want to insert these two files into a parent model to create a drawing from.
When creating parts list, Fusion still sees the different instances of Part 01 (table base) as unique from within Subassembly 01 and Subassembly 02 respectively.
Does anyone have a work flow that could quantify Part 01 from across multiple model files?
I'm open to extensions or plugins.
I've attached a simple diagram to help visualize what I'm looking to do.
I would also like to see how this is done with the native tools in Fusion 360.
@ClintBrown3D could you provide some insights?
Hi @ThreeSixtyMKE_Erich and @TrippyLighting
Currently, this is not possible with our parts list. What you are looking for is a "parts only" parts list that strips out the hierarchy of sub-assemblies. 3rd party add-ins like Bommer or OpenBOM might have this option.
In terms of our future plans, "parts only" parts lists is something that we would like to build, this is currently on our public roadmap here. Every customer request that we get, from meetings, emails, forum posts etc. gets collected and categorised in our feature request database. This information is used to prioritise the features that we build next. I've added your requests to our database.
Thanks @ClintBrown3D. I look forward to this feature!
It comes up a lot in my workflow for furniture and cabinetry.
@ClintBrown3D You Rock!
Let me be clear, that I don't like that we don't have this functionality in Fusion 360, but you responded to this request very quickly and did not "beat around the bush". Thank You!
You also did not hesitate to share the roadmap. I've looked at this roadmap several times. It is such a elegant, concise and beautiful way to share the road traveled and the road ahead!
I'll extend this big thanks to Timera Hart @TimeraAutodesk, who created this before you took over this role.
I wish every Fusion 360 PM would engage here on the forum and had such a roadmap on hand.
@ThreeSixtyMKE_Erich OpenBOM does indeed have this feature:
However, I maintain BOMs independently of the design in Fusion 360 for a number of reasons.
So I cannot speak to how this works when directly connected to a Fusion 360 design through the OpenBOM plugin.
We have the best customers, it makes our jobs all the more gratifying... Hope you're doing well @TrippyLighting , thanks for the kind shout-out!
I did check out if OpenBOM creates a flat BOM with properly consolidated quantities across linked components/assemblies.
It does indeed! It also does a lot more and is definitely worth checking out!
Great, thank you for looking into that.
