Parametric design exploration from Fusion 360 to Ansys

I wonder if it is possible to pass both the model and the parameter set from Fusion 360 to Ansys and conduct design exploration based on those set of parameters on Ansys.

Hello

Thanks for posting. Good question. Here is my opinion about it:

1/ You can export step format from fusion 360 and open it in ANSYS. That will give you solid model data like shape, size, location of the features, etc. Which will be imported as an imported solid model.

2/ But, parametric data like feature history, timeline, etc can not be exported from fusion.

3/ Now, you can also modify the model in Ansys. It is by its own design tools. Modifying an imported solid can be possible in another software by "direct edit" tools. Most of the CAD/CAM/CAE software has those. I am not sure Ansys have those or not but there should be. By direct edit, you can move a feature to a new location, change the size of the shape and some more options are available.

Thanks again.

Thanks for replying. What I want to do is to avoid using the modeling tools in Ansys workspace. Since those tools are quite different from Fusion 360. Changing solely the parameters will be easier.

I saw that can be achieved in Solidworks. See the following link:

SOLIDWORKS model optimization in ANSYS Workbench - YouTube

I hope Fusion 360 can do something similar.

Thanks. In the tutorial, Ansys is directly opening the Solidworks file grabbing all the dimension inputs in the file. This requires a Solidworks plugin in the Ansys. I'm pretty sure, Ansys has this capability for Autodesk Inventor too. But, not sure for Fusion 360 (never seen any example).

But there can be.

It would be good if you look into the Ansys forum about this if the software is compatible with fusion 360 or not?

Let us know what happens next. Thanks

Actually, there is an Ansys add-in in the simulation workspace in Fusion 360.

This allows us to pass the model and the simulation setup to Ansys directly. It is just inconvenient that the parameters in Fusion 360 cannot be manipulated in Ansys.
