Parameters and Constraints for customizable table

Hey There,

 

I am attempting to make a (3 piece) Table (2 legs that fit together and 1 circular top). For this I am trying to use parameters so I can change the dimensions of the table to whatever I need. The only two dimensions I need to change are the material thickness and the diameter of the circle top. 

 

I got it working properly for a couple differrent dimensions but now I am getting an error everytime I try a new dimension and am stuck. I am thinking something here is being over constrained.

Hi,

The screenshots do not give any well-founded indication of the causes.
Please share the file and name which variables should be changed.

Personally I'd create a component for each part that contains the sketch and have the profiles fully constrained to the origin. I definitely would not have all 3 profiles in one sketch just floating at random like you have. See Rule #1

 

Also looks like you have a waning in the timeline.

This sets off an alarm bell. You have the total width set to 34.603 the the 2 end parts at 1.27 and a dimension between of 32.063. In effect you've dimensioned the total 34.603 twice and this should not be allowed and Fusion should give an error if you've constrained  this correctly.

Here's a simplified example. You ca see I can't add the 130 dimension because the other 3 dimensions have already fixed the width. Also as I've constrained the middle of the bottom line to the origin the sketch is now fully constrained making edits more predictable and easier for the sketch solver to solve.

Here is the file. 

 

I am trying to only have to change the thickness of the material and the diameter of the circle. Keeping height the same. 

 

When I change the thickness I would like it to change the gap where the two bases slot together (and add a little for wiggle room).

Take a look at the attached file.

I've cut it down to a single sketch for the legs and constrained it to the origin. Note it's now fully constrained and has the red lock on the sketch in the browser. Check the sizes, I change the diameter and martial thicknesses and they might be different to what you had,

Just a bit of explanation of how I made the legs.

First I extruded the first leg without the centre slot.

Then I used Boundary fill to create a derived copy. 

Next Extrude cut the centre slots in both legs and apply joints.
