Overlapping curved metal sheet projection help!

Greeting,

Can someone with knowledge regarding Sheet metal please suggest a way to resolve a problem I am experiencing.

 

I'm trying to create 2 curved sheet metal pieces with cutout patterns that will align and match with both sheets. The problem I'm having is that because the inner curved piece has a smaller radius than the outer one due to the sheet metal thicknes, if I draw the same dimensions on both sheets there is an offset on the cut outs. 

 

Is there a way to accomplish my need?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please attach your model.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it to your post.

I waited for you to attach your model but you did not.  I went ahead and created two pieces of 16 GA sheet metal with matching holes.  Model is attached.  If you need more help than the timeline offers, let me know directly.

Hi John,

 

Thank you for that expeditious response. Would it be possible to give me a solution by using UNFOLD and SKETCH PALETTE. I want to have a flat pattern of each sheet.

The process for getting a duplicate sheet metal part, with holes, does not use the method you mentioned in your post.  I want to remind you that since you are using sheet metal bodies, you can only have one flat pattern at a time.   Model is attached.

Greetings John,

 

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner.  For clarification purposes, I need to have the option to be able to make any modifications to either sheet independately. As an example, I would offcet one part of the front sheet cutout, or rear sheet, vise versa while leaving other cutouts alone. I'm looking at getting the correct dimemsions of the cutout from each sheet for laser cutting which is why I went with a flat pattern. I think what you sent me might work. I need to wrap my head around what you last sent me to better grasp how you did it.

It worked out well John. Thank you for your amazing resolution. I would like to pick you brain with a couple of the funtions on the timeline if that's okay with you. I would like to understand why things were done a certain way.

I decided to create a video of the complete process I used for you sheet metal body.  You can pick out the information you need.  At the end, I show you that they are connected by creating a hole in the original.  Of course you can control the added features by changing the bodies participating in the extrusion.  You have my model so I will not send it again.  I hope you can glean what you need from the video, please ask any questions if not.
