Orient display during sketch to arbitrary line

During a sketch, is it possible to automatically orient the screen so that is aligned with a particular line?

I'm finding it frustrating to constantly pan around in order to line up my sketch with the geometry that I am most interested in. I would like to be able to make the auto-orient snap to a line or something temporarily while in a sketch.

Or am I just stuck with panning around?

Thanks

Thanks, that does snap to the plane, but it's still rotated.

Is there some way to make it orient the display so that I can choose an arbitrary line as the x,y, or z axis?

I'm doing a lot of small operations on the inside of a sphere which is requiring that I orient things so that they are perpendicular to other points with a compound angle. It would be helpful if I could auto-rotate the display to a particular line when I'm on a sketch plane.

Hi,

Maybe 3-D sketch mode with its variable gizmo is what you are looking for.

Errr. I don't think 3D sketch is the answer. I don't see how that mode would do anything to "snap" the current view to an arbitrary line.

Basically, I don't want to create a 3D sketch, I want to create a 2D sketch that I can extrude. What I'm look for is a convenient way to rotate the display and snap to a line on that rotation.

please show such a process in a screencast.
