On the merits of cloud based software ;-)

I recently found myself unable to complete work on one of my CAD projects and my iMac was occupied buy a WoW junkie.

But, Fusion 360 is cloud based software and I would have access to my projects if I just could run it on another device. The choice was either my 3 year old 3rd generation iPad or the new "business" notebook I had received at work. This is an HP 840 with a 14" screen and plenty enough power to run CAD software on.

Fusion 360 requires an installation and does not run on iOS so that was out. I tried Onshape and while it works I find the display size too restrictive and in combination with my finges too clunky to operate to do productive work. So the iPad was out!

As far as the new business notebook goes I could not install Fusion 360 as it requires a 64 bit OS and the "business" notebok still runs 32 bit Windows 7. Then I tried onshape on this device but it is not support my browser IE and company policy prohibits installallation  of other browsers.

So interestingly enough the only device I can run Fusion 360 on is the oldest amongst these three, my 5 year old iMac.

Fusion actually runs on my oldest MacBook AIR. The AIR before they changed the shape. Maybe the graphic card is not powerful enough for rendering but for modeling it is fine.

@michallach81 @HughesTooling Thanks for the links. I was aware of the project 😉

I just found it interesting that there are still quite a few limits even though marketing departments try to make us believe that with cloud based software unlimited computing powers are available to anyone anwhere at any time. That is not so!
