NPS Straight Pipe Threads?

Hello, I am wondering if I am missing something or if straight pipe threads do not exist in the "Hole" feature?

The BSP pipe threads are straight pipe threads in the hole command but there is no NPS.

@wmhazzardThanks for the quick response! Unfortunately, NPS is standard in our industry and the British Standard has a completely different thread structure in addition to count. I am hoping someone from Autodesk chimes in 😃 as for implementation it seems pretty easy to add NPS to Fusion as the functionality is there it just need the dimensional data added.

Hi Jeff,

 

Looks like you'll have to add your own custom thread: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Custo...

You could copy the BSP thread family and modify accordingly.

Although this is a workaround, it doesn't solve the problem long term as the library path changes with each Fusion360 update and you need to manually move the file each time. I think the dev should take a look.

The excellent ThreadKeeper add-in takes care of moving all of your custom thread files automatically. I think there might be some conversations at AD regarding the possibility of relocating the thread files to a static location but I've no idea when or if this might happen.

4 Years later and this still has not been added to the Thread Library. 

 

Went to go put in a 1/2 NPS thread on my model and low and behold... Doesn't exist.

 

Disappointing to say the least.

They literally added a bunch of other fancy threads instead… it’s such an easy update to do

Adding another voice here. It would be great to get NPS added to the options. I use 1/8-27 NPS and 1/4-18 NPS all the time, but they do not appear to be options available in fusion 360.

I would like to use the 1/2" NPS thread option... Should I go back to SolidWorks?

The entire lighting industry is based on NPS threading (1/8-27, 1/4-18, 3/8-18) so adding them to the library seems worthwhile.

You'll find NPSM included in my custom threads collection, which can be found on my Ko-Fi page. As far as I can tell, this is the one you need. NPS covers three designations: NPSM (National Pipe Straight Mechanical), NPSL (Free-Fitting Mechanical Joints), and NPSH (Hose Fittings). I haven't created an NPSL thread file but for completeness I suppose I should do, seeing as I did the NPSM.
