November Update doesn't install on OS X

When I clicked the update button, the loading window appeared and disappeared before it started loading anything. I tried this several times but to no avail. I decided to make a clean install and that didn't work either: when I double click the install icon (Autodesk Client Downloader), it looks like the installer is starting, but then it just disappears and nothing happens.

Luckily I have also a PC and the latest version works fine on Windows 10, so I'm not in desperate situation (yet) 🙂

OS X El Capitan

Version 10.11.1

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

I think I'm going to do a clean install of El Capitan during the weekend. I should probably have done that in the beginning, but at least now I have a good reason to do it. Just an early spring cleaning 🙂

Oh, and I'm located in Helsinki, Finland.

I already tried to quit Adobe CC but it did not work. So I will not do anything else on this issue. Seems to happened in a few locations. But it is odd that only you and I had these kinds of problems.

Maybe you should talk to Kevin. He is very helpful but your problem is exactly like mine. Same thing. It happened to different kinds of Macs I have. Not just one type.

OK I will not say anything else in relation to this matter. I know the MAS version is a bit slow in updating but it did update on the same date as others this time. For what I am doing, I seldom have crashes since I know how to avoid them. I had been using that for many many years.. more than Early Adopter status!

Bye and good night... we are 8 hours ahead!

Your longest day came yet? or just ended? Very unique country. I have a stone cup from there, very unique! I bought my guitar effects from Finland  many years ago. I do have some friends from Finland now living in Dublin. I go to Ireland all the time. I design things for European skin care companies.  One very interesting thing, my International Distributor is an Irish Man but his company is located in Hong Kong. He branched out to a few countries. He just loves HK!  Strange man!  I also not really living in HK, i moved around but always back here. Complicated lives here but standing on the streets for 5 minutes you can see every body in the world. Even more than Singapore!

Just a little something to show the newbies of Fusion360. No matter what kinds of problems we have with Fusion 360, we are still using it.  It set me up in this business! It gives the colors back to my life! In fact I love this program, I love the new "S" short cut menu, it is just great! Now I travel the world showing clients in different countries about designs and products.

Good night !

Hi I would like to select your post about setting up a new Account as "A Solution" but it did not have the"Accept as Solution" option at this particular post.

I think it is really Apple that blocks the installation of Fusion 360.  I installed new HDR program by Macphun yesterday with great success, not MAS version. So I think some how you must have installed some Apple Programs that triggered this particular problem. That is why you can install using a new Account Name in Apple. I tried that too; It worked but I could not log into a new account when using Fusion360 because then my Sugarsync  Cloud Service and others will not work. Some programs can also work using different Account Names with Administrative rights but when I went back to the original Account Name, I could not find the Fusion360 app becauseit might be hidden somewhere in the new Account Name's home disk so it is not accessible.

Maybe the team designed Fusion 360 in a way that different users of the same Mac with different Account Names could not access it. I think due to security reason but this problem seems to be very strange to both of us.

So for the time being I could only use the MAS version. For me it is fine because I seldom crashed the program anyway. I know when it is crashing. Just prevent using Dragging in Push Pull.

Push Pull is the command that crashes computers when it is confused. Just lightly touching the arrow, then plug in the numbers. If there is an error it will show up but will not crash the computer.

Crashes always occurred during Push Pull operation on hard to push pull objects. Especially those with geometry that could not be performed with the operation.

So that's it. Unless AutoDesk really changed their installation procedure or really dig into the matter and solve that, there is nothing we can do at this time. It remains as a mystery !

Well, in my opinion creating a new account isn't really a solution 🙂 More of a workaround at best. I don't know if you can really blame Apple –or Autodesk for that matter– for the installation problems. There's a clitch which most likely has something to do with a third party program we both use or have used and it somehow interferes with F360's stream app.

I made a clean install of El Cap last night. Luckily, these days a clean installation doesn't mean that you have to reserve a whole day for the operation. It took only about an hour and a half including creating new backups, installing about 20 programs and drivers and I didn't even use the migration service. I decided not to use that, since it might had migrated the 'problem' back to my Mac also 🙂

Anyway, all is well and good. For now, at least.

Cheers

Lately I installed MAS versions ibank5 and Bfunky photo programs. Do you have them?

Nope. It's possible that a program we both have used has been installed way earlier and it has made some sort of change to our systems that may have survived even upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan if we both have made non-clean install. So it might be impossible to find the reason, at least for us 🙂

Hi I had been informed by PM that they are looking into the problems. They said that it is Apple's policy that the MAS programs cannot interfere with other programs. So they are looking into other possibilities like SIP, protective gateways, etc.. It is a unique problem that it happened to both of us (I cannot believe only both of us) in two different countries a few thousand miles apart.

Have a nice sunday.

I'm getting this problem too. I've downloaded the installer as of 28 November 2015 (version  {ta_m-id%3A918-FOD-433%26token%3A_mch-autodesk.com-1384021993765-37031}).

I think that these problems started for me when I opened the software whilst an update was being pushed (on the 21st? Nov) and I got a message that the software was being updated and that I would have to work offline. I did the work that I needed to finish, but then every time I've started Fusion in the week since, I get the dialog that says that I need to update the software but when I clicked the button to carry out the update, the progress bar stayed fixed at 0% complete for hours. This evening, I'd had enough and figured that I'd nuke the software and reinstall. The uninstaller failed to work (it just opened and then instantly closed), and the downloader did the same. I then tried the instructions to carry out a clean uninstall of the software but they've not helped.

My machine is running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 (14F1021). The Mac App store version seems to be working, but I need to maintain compatibility with Fusion running on Windows, so the update delays that the MAS adds for Apple's verification process mean that my copy of Fusion on the Mac often can't open anything that I edit on a Windows PC since changes to the file format (or whatever Autodesk change) makes files saved in the newer versions not backward compatible.

Here's the tail of the autodesk.webdeploy.streamer.log

2015-11-28 23:58:06,789 - MainThread - adsk.dls.streamer - DEBUG :: Logging initialized, with level 10, output file: /Users/timini/Library/Logs/autodesk.webdeploy.streamer.log

Any ideas?

Hi, Kevin @baribak said that according to their research, they thought it was related to "Account Name" and "Network". But I did informed him that my other programs installed successfully as well as the last two updates before the Nov 23, and 15th updates. Maybe it is network related but the Internet I am using is my private 500m fibre optic version and there is no network traffic problems. Unless the Network to AutoDesk designated servers were having problems. In fact I experienced problem using this WiFi at home updating iPhone's App. It was kind of Stuck unless i went back to mobile internet. But this Fusion problems happened to users in a few countries so I think this should be looking into as soon as possible because more damages were done on differences in file format as per your post here.

This happened to four of my macs at home and office in Hong Kong. Other users in Finland, and other countries also experienced these problems. I will go to Singapore this Wednesday and I will see if my Mac Air I7 also could not update since it is using Singtel instead of Whart T & T in Hong Kong.

I wish Kevin could find out how to fix the installer. I am aware of the differences between the delayed update that could affect your PC. I have Four Macs affected. I could not change the Account Names on those Macs. I tried as per @Anonymous suggestion and it works. But my other programs will not work with a new Account Name with adminstrative right. All other programs did not interfere with this Fusion installer under the Original Account Name. I had deleted the New Account Name I setup to test and went back to the original. Since Fusion 360 is installed in the home disk, if the Fusion is installed in the New Account Name, and reverted back to the Original Account Name I could not find the program because of the different Home Disk used.

I think @Anonymous in Finland did a clean installation of the latest OSX and might be working for him. But he mentioned that he had to install 30 programs again. I could not do that for all five computers plus photo programs like Macphun photo programs only worked with the Original Account Name and would not work with a new name. My other cloud services would be affected as well.

So I hope Kevin and his team can fix that. Fusion 360 is the only program I had this problem at this time. All others updated and installed correctly under present environment.

Dear Kevin, please look into the Language in used in the Fusion 360 installer. Maybe the new OSX update put more security on Languages used. I set mine to US English. I also have a few Chinese Language that I can switch to TrackPad handwriting.

I believed that would be a little problem. The User in Finland might be set to British English plus the language in his country.

I think this should be looked into.

Thanks.

@tjstephens

Let me offer you a solution. What you wanted is to have your Macs using latest version but about to sync withg others

1) Go to system setting and setting up one more Administrative account, called that say "Fusion188"  , Same password as your regular login.

2) Make sure your iCloud drive is turned on with enough gigabyte on it.

use same applie ID in your new account.

Restart and login this new one. use same Apple ID for icloud.  Download install Fusion 360, login.

When ready to archive the 3D files use Icloud to do it.

When finished, restart and go back to main Account. your files still at icloud drive. I am doing that. Seems to be only solution now.

Hello,

It would be great if you can attach more files to us for further analysis.

1. The log file "~/Library/Logs/autodesk.webdeploy.streamer.log"

2. The whole folder "~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/webdeploy/meta/streamer"

Thanks,

Ting.

Hi Ting,

The zipped streamer folder is 24MB, so I've put it onto dropbox (and will PM you the link).

Kind Regards,
Tim

Hi Tim,

Please set the traditional English as your primary language, rather than other types of English, such as English (U.K.).

  1. Add English to your preferred language.

 step1.png

  1. Set English as your primary language.

 step2.png

After the configuration, please try to install Fusion.

We provided Japanese localization support for November Release, which leads to unavailability of fresh install or live update in some preferred languages, such as “en-GB”, we will fix it soon. Before we fix it, please use above workaround, sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

Ting Lu

my computer is set to US English and it could not update nor install. Actually i might be the first one to report this. Kevin B had been communicating with me. Sorry i do not have log file since i installed the MAS version, but now uninstalled. I had to use a new account name to install Fusion. Kind of switching back and forth because my other programs will not work with the New Accounbt Name. I alread made a post here.

Most of us cannot experiment with this anymore since we have to use the program. So once your team could find a solution please contact me as well so I do not have to Switch User all the time.

Thanks.

Hi,

Please not set to US English, but set it as English without any postfix. We don’t support English (U.S.), English (U.K.), English (Australia), etc. now.

Thanks,

Ting.

Dear Ting.Lu

Thanks. I just changed to English and it is working now. In fact I was supecting that too after reading Tim's post last time. I noticed British English in his log.

Thanks. This is a solution after all those bad times.

But now i have to change for all five Macs that was the tough part. They were all set to US English

Thanks..This is accepted as a solution but there is no option for us to click that. Sorry about that!
