New to Fusion 360 cannot load a sample file

The tutorials show a right click on the file then open. I get no open option. I get: Create Fusion Design, Share Public Link, Upload New Version, Rename, and Delete. Create fusion design (the most obvious) brings me to an upload process that fails. Files from my "first project" folder do open as supposed to.

I tried a work around and downloaded the file to my hard drive, but could not figure out where to put it so that I could access it. I wanted to try the "work off line" feature anyway.

Hi spray_man,

If you right click a file in your project, are you not seeing a list of commands below with "open/insert/create drawing/share public link/import new version/rename/delete"?

RMC menu.jpg

If you right click a file in Sample, you will only see 2 commands "open/insert".

RMC menu of sample file.jpg

Create New Design should not bring you to Upload. Could you help to tell which version are you using Fusion? Sounds like not the latest one (2.0.1457). You please check the build version from Help->About. But it is still hard to understand as Fusion liveupdate should always update you to the latest release version. Any more detailed info will be very helpful to understand.

If you encounter more failure in upload process, please let us know. We just delivered a new release 3 hours ago. In this release we did big improvement in upload/download infrastructure. We expect the upload/download experience should be faster. And we did testing in our customers' environment during deploying this new release today, it works very well.

Thank you for reporting your issues and experience!

Thanks,

I was not seeing the list of commands with the "open". However, the new version is working correctly, the only thing now is that the sports car does not come up as one of the samples. My work revolves around car bodies so I want to practice with one. No worries I will poke around to see if I can find it. Thanks for your reply.

Before I went on a break, and the first time I logged into Fusion 360 for the first time after the the new version loaded, the sample files came up. After the break the files do not come up. Also I stil canot load the sports car file:

I choose the network panel.

I choose the sample folder.

Dwm 2015-03-15 10-47-15-74.jpg

I get the usual folders that appear there (with the sample files), but not the sample files that came up before my break . I added a new folder by accident.

I search for the file I want, and find it.

I don't get the options I am looking for, but click on the best choice, just for the heck of it.

I get a failure.

Sorry you are having so much trouble with this file.  I want to help you get back to working with the car design.  Would you be willing to share your Samples project with me brent.espenship AT autodesk.com ?

If you haven't invites someone into a project before, in Fusion, click on your Samples project, and above the car design, click on "People" and enter my email address and click on the invite button.

Hi,

We overloaded the term 'Samples' and have ended up confusing you and other users. Our apologies, we are taking steps to make this a lot clearer and easier.

Background - Fusion 360 uses our A360 platform as the sharing and colloboration backbone. We have Samples in the folder that are Samples for Fusion 360 that can be opened directly in Fusion and some files that are samples for A360 to show how you can colloborate on any CAD data, so these are from other systems, e.g. the car sample you are looking at is a Solidworks Assembly. The intent was that you could look at the SW model in A360 on the web without needing any special software and still comment and colloborate on it.

With the new update, you will see that there is are two distinct Fusion and CAM samples folders at the bottom of the date panel. Those are the supported samples.

In reality, you should be able to RMB and convert the solidworks model to a Fusion model but looks like there is a bug in the translation system. It has been logged and we wil try to address it in an upcoming update.

Thanks,

Bankim

I just sent you an invite to a project on my account - I'm working on getting the car model to a state where I can share it with you.

Hi Brent: I had to step out in a hurry without warning.  I tried to invite you every way possible 1. The way you show on your post - does not allow me to type your email. The field does not even make itself available (stays dark). 2. clicking on your invite (highlights it?) and hit invite. Nothing works. You can call or text me if you want. 321-426-5087

In detail:

Here I see your invite.

Here I tried clicking on the email address area but the area does not accept input.

Here tried clicking on your invite and then click invite, with the same result. No result. I'll be home the rest of the day and until 11 pm Eastern standard time. You can call or text me if you want. 321-426-5087

I got clarification that your migrated Samples folder is still an admin project, so that is working as expected - you can't invite someone to an admin project.  Sorry I suggested that.  I'm working on the design to get it back to you in a format you can work with.  You are not the only customer who has encountered this issue, so it will be nice to have this in my back pocket for others as well.  The design is about 0.5 Gb in the Solidworks format, so translation and upload is taking some time.

HI Nelson,

You can get the car now from the project I shared with you as a Fusion design - just open it in Fusion and export to a location of your choosing.

Please let me know if this gets you up and running with the Autodesk car design.

Hi Team. I am in no hurry to use the system. I am only writing because I think it may help. I dont know if I am helping or hurting.

Two things are still happening:

When I view the samples folder. The sample files do not show up.

The sports car file, in a shared folder with Brent, never loads and the system hangs indefinetly. I have to use the task manager to kill it.

This is what the diagnostic file reads, at around the time I request the file. I hope it helps:
