New material tutorial?

Can anyone point me to a tutorial to create a new material (for simulation purposes, as opposed to appearance)?

These are the steps I've figured out:

1. In the Model window, go to Modify - > Manage Materials

2. Click the ball with the plus in the lower left -> Create New Material

3. Right click on the name and rename it

4. Expand the window with the arrows in the lower right.

5. Fill in the information in the "Identity" tab

Then things get dicier.

6. It seems like I should click the "+" box and add an "Appearance" and a "Physical" tab. It is weird that this brings up a file browser. I just want to fill the properties in, not import other properties.

7. If I do import properties from another material, it adds this little crossing arrows button in the tab. If you hover over it, it suggests clicking it will "Replaces this asset". I don't know what that means but it sounds like I shouldn't do it. My best guess is that it overwrites something, but I am worried it overwrites the original material, instead of the new one.

Where do I go from here?

Hi Erick,

here is a video how to add your own material to the favorite mat. library...

with regard to delete anything, please don't worry you cannot really delete any material from the mat. library as it is read only.

Regards,

Josef
