Moving the canvas out of plane

Hi,

I'm a beginner using fusion 360. I've imported images of the front, side and top view of a product and managed to align them. Now I try to move them perpendicular to the plane the canvas is in, but it doesn't move that way.

For example if the canvas is in XY plane, it won't move in the Z direction. Is there some setting to change that?

When you right click on the canvas in the Browser, use the move command to move it in all directions instead of using the edit canvas option. It then moves in all the directions.

Hello,
I'm trying to change  a canvas plane or move it perpendicularly. However, I can't find a way to do it - the Edit Canvas dialog doesn't allow me to change the plane, and there is no move command in the Browser as said  tejaswinichatty above.

Use a Base Feature to move it as you like

Enter a base feature then move it as you like, then finish base feature

I have not tried @SaeedHamza method,

I agree with you, there is no Move command in the right click menu, with History turned on,

To place it on the rearward plane, you do so during the insert and select that (appropriate) plane.

I have no workflow requiring a move of the canvass after insert, and positioning on my selected plane.

Might help....

Hi @Anonymous,

Today, in a parametric design, there is no general mechanism for moving a Canvas.  The best ways to do this are:

  • Attach the canvas to a parametric work plane.  Then, you can edit the work plane and change the canvas' position by changing the work plane
  • Create a component to contain the canvas, then use Move to move the component
  • As @SaeedHamza suggests, create a Base Feature, put the canvas into that base feature, and then you can move by editing the Base Feature.  Base Feature is like a small island of direct modeling in the middle of a parametric design

Thank you!

The method of the Base Feature works just fine!

I created an Offset Plane, but how can I attach a Canvas to it? I don't use components yet, so I can't use any Joints
