Move/Copy Bug

Hi,

I updated fusion 360 today, but when i use move/copy and Create copy check mark fusion 360 crash.

Also i when i try to move object from point to point it does not show any points like in previous version. do you have to manually create a sketch and place a point?

if its a square object only corners can be selected, not the mid point of a face on the object. earlier we could select even a edge of an object  and move /Snap it towards another edge on a different body. Now i cant seem to do it.

please help me ..i don't know if i am doing it the right way

thanks

Hi Shanaka,

Thanks for posting, and sorry to hear of the problems you are encountering.

Re: crash when using Copy - I can't easily reproduce this here, so it might be something specific to a certain design or workflow. Are you able to share the f3d of the model that shows the crash?

Re: midpoints. We updated 'Point to Point' move to be parametric (i.e. it now remember which points you pick), but this unfortunately didn't include support for midpoints - I'll see if that's something we can add back.

For now, the Align command also allows you to align two points (which does include support midpoints); can you try this and see if this works for you?

Thanks,

Jake

@stargazepdc try turning your net off and on, that fixed it for me.

@stargazepdc  If you have this sort of thing happen again go into your task manager under the details tab look for Microsoft error reporting, If it's running kill it and reboot your computer.

@jakefowler This is the second time I have found the Microsoft error reporting Maxing out the CPU when doing a major operation in fusion both times just happen to be the move command, first time was on my old computer quite a few weeks ago and tonight, different computers, different versions of fusion and no I can not make it happen again.

Bummer that point to point is less powerful now. It limits its usability just to use boxes and sharp corners.

Why have it then even included? I would take it out then specifically if compared to the old version it has less abilities.

I always wondered why not move and align are fused. I know they do different things.

But loft also includes blend and 2 sweep rail and such.

It might make things more focused.

The original intention hadn't been to omit this - we intended to add feature history to this move type, while maintaining its existing capabilities. So this will be coming back as soon as we can.

We did actually originally experiment with merging the Move and Align commands, but when we tested this out there were some differences in behavior that made it feel unnatural as a single combined command. We may still revisit this idea in future, as there is some logic to doing this, but we didn't merge them for the time being.

Thanks for the info. But anyway great to have now move and rotate parametric commands and also align works parametrically in the timeline. Thats great!

I'm having exactly this problem with a new file I've just started. A single component, with one sketch. I try to copy the component to make the other side of the bookcase, and Fusion freezes.

http://a360.co/2kANwlm

Steps to reproduce with this file:

  1. Open the file
  2. Select component Side:1
  3. Hit M to move/copy
  4. Tick Create Copy
  5. Freeze

Running Fusion 2.0.2681 downloaded today.

Thanks for the steps! We have since been able to reproduce this internally. We actually already have a fix pending, and this should be going out in the near future.

This issue occurs when trying to copy a component while it is active. We shouldn't allow this (as a rule, any new geometry is added to the active component, but obviously it's impossible to copy a component into itself). So the way to avoid this is to activate the component you wish the new component to be copied into before performing the Move/Copy command - this should avoid the hang altogether.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Jake

Thanks. I'm new to CAD apps like this; is this the correct way to make two sides to something like a bookcase? If I modify one of the components, will the other change to match?

Don't you mean use the mirror command when your sketching the book case so you only need to draw half of it.

hi,

yes with sketches and also you can use mirror command after you sketch with bodies/components/ faces etc. sorry didn't explain it properly earlier.

hope this helps

I am seeing the same thing, and the autosave is unreliable.  Why can't I set up autosave time frames and file locations to my liking?

Repeated crashes with Move/Copy.  I have modified my workflow to save after every design event.  Happy to share the file, but simply put, I create a rectangle, extrude it, do a move/copy and when I check the move/copy box fusion locks up, the checkbox turns blue, and I have to fold.  I have tried turning off MS error reporting and rebooting the network.

You may need to do what I have to do, start fusion close it and start it again sometimes I have to do it 3 times, other wise I get a lot of crashes.

I continue to see this MOVE/COPY crash.  It happens in a variety of models, some with only one or two components, some with 15 or 20.  Quite annoying to have to save after every new component to avoid losing work.
