Move along one axis with snapping

Hi! Is that possible in Fusion 360 to move along some certain axis but with snapping enabled? Look at screen record attached. Here I'm showing how simple it realized in SketchUp and trying to figure out how to do something the same in Fusion 360. For example, I need to move my body along "X" axis and want it to be snapped to another body by choosing reference points. I know I can use "move" command with "point to point" or "align" but it doesn't do such kind of job or maybe I'm wrong?. This should be basic things but I don't know what is the easiest way to do it.

Also, I'm not sure how it is possible to align such objects as sphere if Fusion 360 doesn't show any bounding box of the selected object. For example what if I decide to align one of the sphere's bounding box corner to the box's corner?

Fusion does not use bounding boxes for geometry, it uses it’s native objects.

 

To move with snap, the destination point must exist.

Sorry, I'm mostly SketchUp user and now decided to learn F360 and before writing this topic I've watched a lot of tutorials and read the documentation. So I like F360 because of its simplicity. I'm still doing some practices and generally, everything I need I can already do in F360. But today I've realized that there is something I missing up with F360 workflow as long as I can't do these basic things as accurate moving (aligning) with snapping shown above. I tried to find something like "F360 moving/aligning tricks, etc." but no success that's why I decided to ask for some help here. Thanks!

Hi,

In Fusion, the Joint-tool is designed to align and snap.

Attach an example file of something that you have completed in Fusion 360.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Honestly your video did not do as you asked That rear white corner is not aligned to anything.

 

You have mentioned move point to point, destination must exist.

you have not mentioned sketch.

 

Fusion is sketch based parametric modeller.  

Using primitives in Fusion, are well, primitive.

Snap alignment points are provided in Fusion, with correct tools, Align and Move, or Joints.

 

As for the Sphere, snap the centre point to your (Object) with radius Offset.

Why not?) I need a body to be moved along only one axis while reference points appearing and could be snapped to each other and that can be seen on the screenrecord.

  1. There is nothing to share indeed. I mean that after each portion of information about F360 I was trying to do some kind of checking “exams” for myself. Something like “ok, now you know how this or that tools work in F360 so try to recreate something you did earlier in sketchup” 😁 And of course I didn’t do full projects and save it, it was just some checking tasks  where I could fail by my suppose having no idea how to do it in F360. I found very usefully functionality with F360 sheet metal and got some questions about it. I’ll share some file later where I need some help with accuracy results I got after making some body bent.

@TheCADWhisperer Hi! Please, look at my record. Here is a part of what I'm getting some problems with accuracy results when making flanges. At the beginning of the video, I'm showing my 1st simple variant where I use "thicken" command what means I only need to add some fillets to some needed edges. But at the end of the record, I'm showing how bending makes some inaccurate results in the bottom. Here is also .f3d file attached.

Yes, I understand it and know I can manually align it to bottom plane, etc. But I just interesting in why is this happening in this case while using flanges command. Where is my fault or what.

I understand geometry better than words.

Where are your sketches?

The foundation of Fusion 360 Sheet Metal is parametric sketching.

You appear to be attempting to build without a foundation?

This was a mesh imported from SketchUp and then converted to surface here in F360 using 'mesh to BRep" command.

SketchUp geometry is rubbish.

Can you Attach the orginal *.stl file from SketchUp?

Do you want to learn Fusion 360?

You should have parametric sketches similar to Attached file.
