Motion Link Issue

Hi,

I was trying to add a realistic motion between my rack and pinion gears by using a motion link. After selecting the rack and pinion, Fusion 360 would play an animation to help see how the resulting object mate would behave. Unfortunately the rack (sliding) and pinion (spinning) animations were moving too fast to see if the teeth were meshing correctly. Is there a way to slow the preset animation speed?

Thanks

Could you use the motion study command from the assemble drop down menu to make a slower animation?

I believe that would work to slow the animation down but I would need to have the rack and pinion meshing correctly first. The pinion gear is spinning faster than the rack is moving. I am fixing it by adjusting the distance and angle values in the motion link. It would be easier to adjust if the animation speed was slower though. Does that make sense?

Yes that makes sense, totally. However, I'm not aware of a method to slow down the default animation. This would make a great feature enhancement in the Fusion 360 Ideastation.

There's a couple of good videos on youtube created by @robduarte that you may find useful.

I hope that helps!

I'm with Nathan - a motion study would help. In my rack & pinion video I show how to get them to move together properly. Try that first, then the motion study.

Good advice. I watched the videos and was able to make my gears mesh better.

Thank you both for your timely and helpful feed back!
